Become a Parish Councillor

Ever thought of becoming a Parish Councillor?  We have two vacancies.

Would you like to engage with your fellow residents and work to sustain and improve the quality of village life in Church Hanborough and Long Hanborough? As a Parish Councillor people regard you as responsible for things that happen locally. You will make a difference by influencing decisions that affect our local community. Being a councillor is a commitment but highly satisfying.

Who can be a councillor?

The easy answer is almost anyone, as long as you are:

  • a British or a citizen of the Commonwealth;
  • at least 18 years old and
  • registered to vote in the area concerned or have lived, worked or owned property there for at least 12 months before an election.

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all and applications from as broad a spectrum of our community are encouraged.

Please contact the Parish Clerk to find out how you might get involved.

Hanborough Skate Park

We are very proud of completing our new skatepark and welcome all users on all equipment.
The new park brings up to date an existing facility that was well loved and well used. During its development we spoke to users and were encouraged in our endeavours by their stories about using the site, personal development and building lasting friendships.
The site has always been open to all users with no restrictions on age or anything else.
We are committed to getting the best from the site and have, for example, made provision for training funded by Council. We are talking to our installer, local experts and training organisations about this. We also have a desire to further develop the area and are considering a viewing area and potential for a pump track.
We recognise that such a good facility will attract users from a wide catchment area and as someone who traveled far and wide as a youngster to skate, I and Council welcome this.
We are learning from the days immediately after opening about how the site will be used and are open and willing to do so. We are really excited to see how quickly it has become so popular.
